Looks like we’re back to secrets and lies.

The second Dimitry leaves the suite, I get up. Wrapped in a sheet, I wander into the lounge and reach for the remote.

Immediately, I’m confronted with the man I mistook for a boring attorney.

“I’ve never been interested in the limelight,” Knight says with a placid expression on his face as he stares right at me.

I snort. “Yeah, and that’s the reason for your performance in front of the reporters when you threw Dimitry under the bus.”

“However, after former Councilor Ophelia Mortlake’s involvement in the blood brothels downtown—the area that she is responsible for I might add—coming to light, I feel I have no alternative but to step forward and take charge of the Council.”

“You smarmy little shit,” I murmur. “I bet you were behind all of it.”

When he smiles, I squeeze the remote so hard that the plastic cracks. I toss it on the couch before I destroy it.

“What more can you tell us about the private blood banks?” The fresh-faced reporter asks Knight, before thrusting the microphone into his face.

Private blood banks?

“Well, as an investigation is underway, it would be premature to share what we’ve discovered so far. But I assure you that we will—” I stalk over to the TV and switch it off because there’s only so much bullshit I can take.

“Nothing serious, he says,” I mutter as I head for the bedroom to dress. “Just go to sleep and I’ll be back soon, he says. Well, that’s not going to happen.”
